ABOUT the campaign/foundation

The three founders of Sigma Nu Fraternity came together on that moonlit night in October 1868, standing firm for what they believed—not one ounce of hazing—adopting Honor as their code and ultimately forming what would become Sigma Nu Fraternity. The birth, growth, and expansion in Sigma Nu’s first hundred years included several important firsts, like the first issue of The Delta (published in 1883), the first National Convention (held in Nashville in 1884), the first chapter on the West Coast (Beta Chi at Stanford in 1891), the first headquarters building (established in Indianapolis in 1915), and the formation of the Educational Foundation (in 1945). At the celebration of our Centennial, thousands of men across the country had joined one of the 164 chapters in the Legion of Honor based on the appeal of its principles.

More than a third of the way into our second century, much that is core to the identity of Sigma Nu remains the same today. Our mission to build Men of Honor, steeped in the principles of ethical leadership, is the same as it was in 1869. Sigma Nu is a leader in interfraternal efforts toward risk reduction and risk management, and our unique LEAD Program has been recognized as one of the most meaningful educational initiatives ever undertaken by a college fraternity. In the face of today’s changing society, Sigma Nu’s mission has never been more relevant.

Enhancing our ability to develop ethical leaders inspired by the principles of Love, Honor, and Truth; foster the personal growth of each man’s mind, heart, and character; and perpetuate lifelong friendships and commitment to the Fraternity is an investment in our future that none in the Legion of Honor will ever regret. The leadership of tomorrow is at stake. To that end, Sigma Nu has embarked on our first-ever capital campaign. The silent phase of the campaign has been so successful; we have decided to increase our goal from $10 million to $14 million. We invite you to join us in Building Upon the Rock—Preserving Our Future.
